Prampram Technical Institute Cries for Urgent Rescue as Students Face Severe Infrastructure Challenges.

PRAMPRAM, Greater Accra — Prampram Technical Institute is facing severe infrastructure and accommodation challenges, with students struggling with inadequate desks, overcrowded dormitories, poor access to potable water and inadequate facilities for practical training.
A visit to the institution by NEWS+ Global revealed a difficult learning environment, with some students compelled to sit on the laps of their colleagues while others stand during lessons due to a shortage of classroom furniture.
The accommodation situation is also a major concern, with some students sleeping on mattresses placed directly on the floor because the school does not have enough bed frames to accommodate them.

Access to potable water remains another pressing challenge.
The supply of potable water to the school is reportedly irregular, forcing students to depend largely on a nearby dug-out water source that collects rainwater. Students reportedly use the water for bathing, washing and other daily activities, raising concerns about hygiene and their general welfare. The challenges extend to the school's practical training facilities.
Despite being a technical institution, Prampram Technical Institute does not have an adequately equipped workshop to support the practical training students require as part of their education. The school is also facing a shortage of classrooms, putting additional pressure on the available learning spaces.
Teacher accommodation remains another concern, with the institution lacking sufficient bungalows to accommodate its teaching staff.
Another major issue raised during the visit was the reported encroachment on the school's original land. According to information provided by the school, Prampram Technical Institute originally occupied more than 90 acres of land. However, the portion currently occupied by the institution has reportedly been reduced to about six acres due to encroachment.
The Principal of Prampram Technical Institute, Hercules Dzenunye Asamany, confirmed the challenges facing the institution during the News+Global visit and highlighted the need for support to improve infrastructure and facilities.
Students who spoke during the visit appealed for urgent intervention, particularly in the areas of classroom furniture, dormitory accommodation, potable water and practical training facilities. The situation has raised concerns about the ability of the institution to provide a safe and conducive environment for teaching, learning and skills development.
With technical and vocational education expected to equip young people with practical skills for employment and entrepreneurship, the conditions confronting the institution have heightened calls for urgent attention from the authorities responsible for technical and vocational education.
The Ghana TVET Service, Ministry of Education, government, Ningo-Prampram District Assembly and other relevant stakeholders are being urged to assess the situation and take immediate steps to address the infrastructure and welfare challenges confronting students and staff.
For the students of Prampram Technical Institute, the appeal is for urgent action to provide the basic facilities required to learn, live and acquire the practical skills for which they enrolled at the institution.
