NPP Elections: Hawa Koomson Secures Landslide Victory to Lead Party’s Women’s Wing

Newly elected National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mavis Hawa Koomson, has pledged to steer the party’s women’s wing with a high sense of experience and maturity. Speaking shortly after her electoral victory, Hawa Koomson emphasized that her leadership would focus on leveraging her extensive political background to strengthen the capacity and influence of women within the ruling party ahead of future national campaigns.

Hawa Koomson secured her mandate during the NPP's highly anticipated national delegates conference, where she faced off against her primary rival, Hajia Safia Mohammed. The contest concluded decisively in Koomson's favour, prompting Hajia Safia to formally concede defeat and offer her congratulations, a gesture that highlighted the democratic sportsmanship within the party.

The official certified results from the election committee revealed a clear and commanding lead for the veteran politician. Hawa Koomson polled an impressive 783 votes, comfortably outdistancing her sole competitor, Hajia Safia Mohammed, who managed to secure 429 votes from the delegates present.

Addressing journalists and jubilant party faithful after the declaration of the results, the newly minted women's leader expressed deep gratitude to her campaign team and the broader delegate body. “I want to thank every person who supported me till today. Their efforts have resulted in this victory,” she stated, while also commending the party's election committee for ensuring a smooth and transparent voting process.

When pressed by reporters regarding the specific leadership style she intends to introduce to the wing, Koomson confidently reasserted her core strategy for the portfolio. Defining her upcoming tenure in a single definitive phrase, she declared that the rank and file should expect "a woman with experience and maturity" at the helm of the NPP's female mobilization efforts.
