Nollywood Legend Pete Edochie Visits Ghana Gold Board CEO Sammy Gyamfi to Launch Youth Initiative.

ACCRA, Ghana — In celebration of pan-African cinema and leadership, veteran Nollywood icon and screen legend Pete Edochie paid a courtesy call on the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, Esq.. The meeting, which formed part of the Pete Edochie Legacy Project, was held in Accra as a result of the veteran actor’s tremendous contribution to the continent’s storytelling and culture. During his visit, Edochie, alongside his delegation, presented his ambitious multi-platform initiative – a new book, a documentary film and the launch of the African Youth Mentorship Initiative.

The mentorship campaign is strategically structured in a manner that it is expected to reach over 500,000 young people, all over Africa. Welcoming the delegate party, including his Deputy, Richard Nunekpeku Esq., Gyamfi pledged GoldBod’s extensive administrative and structural support, citing the project’s alignment with Ghana Gold Board’s own, domestic Special Intervention Programme – which is intensely focused on delivering sustainable social impact, building local capacity and driving youth-centred economic empowerment.
One notable cross-industry link was highlighted on the visit, as GoldBod’s progressive resource management strategies are featured prominently in Edochie’s newly unveiled book. Highlighting Ghana’s modern approach to formalising its precious metals sector, and maximising state revenues, whilst ensuring its vast gold resources directly contribute to the country’s overall development, GoldBod has, since its reorganisation – and subsequent takeover from the former Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) – been applauded by local leaders, including the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for intensifying value addition and localising gold smuggling.

Beyond the discussion of mineral resources, the cultural exchange also pointed to a strong sense of unity between West African neighbours Ghana and Nigeria. Edochie, on the occasion of the launch, publicly praised Ghana’s historical and enduring contribution to the overall development of the continent. He further called upon today’s governments to aggressively invest in native storytelling, and reinvigorate local filmmaking infrastructure, in order to preserve cultural history. The collaborative meeting closed with both leaders noting that African sovereignty rests as much on the protection of the continent’s natural gold resources, as it does on the nurturing of intellectual and creative talents of the African youth.
