NENE NAKOM NAMLI V INSTALLED AS SEGE MANTSE

SEGE, GREATER ACCRA — The Kingmakers of the Sege Stool have installed Mr. Godfred Kojo Nakom as the new Sege Mantse, with the stool name Nene Nakom Namli V, following a customary installation ceremony at Sege Nakomkope. The installation took place on August 30, 2026, at the Namli Stool Room at the ancestral Nakom Wem in Sege Nakomkope.
The ceremony was conducted in the presence of the Stool Father, Namli Fetish Priest and Priestess, and the Asafoatse of Akpotisu.
As part of the customary rites, a ram was slaughtered after the candidate, Mr. Kojo Nakom had been confined in the stool room, before he swore to the Namli Black Stool. The installation followed the selection of the candidate by the Kingmakers of the Sege Stool.
According to a resolution signed by the Kingmakers, Nomo Emmanuel Amanor Nakom, Head of Nakom Wem, presented three candidates for consideration by the Kingmakers, who subsequently selected Mr. Godfred Kojo Nakom to occupy the Sege Stool.
The resolution, adopted at a meeting held at CII, Tema, on August 28, 2026, stated that the selection and installation were conducted in accordance with the customs, traditions and established practices governing the Sege Stool.
The Kingmakers listed in the resolution are Nomo Augustus Lomotey Amlalo of Ayiku Wem, Yomo Manye Esther Kwablah of Kanor Wem, Nomo John Tetteh Kabutey Narh of Akpotosu Wem and Nomo Daniel Dornu Nartey of Narter Tumolu Wem.

Hon. Richard Dornu Nartey is identified in the document as Head of Family of 'Lomotey We'.
Following the customary rites, a procession was held from Nakomkope to the Sege Junction as part of activities marking the installation of the new Mantse.
In his first message following his installation, Nene Nakom Namli V called for unity among the people, saying unity would help promote development in the community.
He said he had been chosen to serve and was prepared to carry out that responsibility together with the Kingmakers and the entire community.

The installation comes against the background of a longstanding dispute over the Sege Stool, which has passed through the Ada Traditional Council, the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs and the National House of Chiefs.
On August 24, 2026, the National House of Chiefs allowed an appeal involving Hon. Richard Dornu Nartey and three others against Gideon Dame Agbewornu and 31 others.

The National House also awarded GH¢15,000 in costs in favour of the appellants.

The restored 2020 Ada Traditional Council decision had addressed competing claims to the Sege Stool and stated that matters concerning the authority to enstool or destool the Sege Chief were for the Head of 'Lomotey We' and the Kingmakers of the Sege Stool.
The August 30 installation is therefore significant because the resolution presented by the Kingmakers records that Mr. Godfred Kojo Nakom was selected from three nominees presented by the Head of Nakom Wem and that the Kingmakers collectively affirmed their decision and supported his installation.
The installation of Nene Nakom Namli V now marks a new chapter in the history of the Sege Stool, with the new Mantse calling for unity and collective efforts towards the development of the community.
