Manhyia South MP Surrenders to EOCO Over Money Laundering and SIC Financial Loss Allegations.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) is preparing to arraign the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, before a weekend court as investigations continue into allegations of financial misconduct.
In an official statement released on Friday, October 2, 2026, the anti-graft agency clarified that the MP voluntarily surrendered to investigators on October 1 at 10:00 AM and is fully cooperating with the ongoing process.

The security agency (EOCO) strongly dismissed widespread media speculation claiming that it had set a GH¢50 million bail surety for the lawmaker's release. EOCO urged the public to disregard those reports, explaining that it is collaborating closely with the Office of the Attorney-General to formally put the suspect before a weekend court session. The office emphasized that its actions are strictly guided by constitutional timeframes and legal procedural requirements governing bail.
The MP’s detention follows months of evasion after investigators repeatedly attempted to question him regarding a high-profile corporate dispute. The legal troubles stem from work executed by the MP's former law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, for SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited during efforts to retrieve millions of Ghana cedis from the defunct Equity Savings and Loans.
The broader scope of the investigation involves heavy allegations including: Criminal conspiracy, Causing financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, Money laundering, Tax-related offenses
The standoff between the lawmaker and the state security apparatus peaked on September 20, 2026, when an Accra High Court issued an arrest warrant. This was granted after EOCO convinced the court that it had completely exhausted all conventional and reasonable methods to secure the MP's voluntary compliance.
Days later, on September 23, 2026, a chaotic scene unfolded on the premises of the Accra High Court when EOCO operatives attempted to execute the warrant. The encounter degenerated into a public confrontation, prompting Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah to flee the scene and seek temporary sanctuary within the Chamber of Parliament, publicly decrying the incident as an attempted abduction by state agents before eventually turning himself in.
