Dr. Agyemang-Lardey Wins Sege NDC Secretary Race, Calls for Unity and Reconciliation.

Dr. Divine Kabutey Agyemang-Lardey has been elected Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Sege, Greater Accra Region, after defeating his contender, Prosper Teye Akortia, in a keenly contested internal election held on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

Dr. Agyemang-Lardey polled 515 votes against Mr. Akortia’s 443, securing victory by a margin of 72 votes. The outcome reflects the choice of delegates and sets the stage for a new chapter in the administration of the party’s affairs in the Sege Constituency.

Speaking in an interview after his victory, Dr. Agyemang-Lardey expressed gratitude to God, describing his election as an opportunity to serve the party and its members. He thanked the delegates for the confidence they had reposed in him, acknowledging that their mandate came with a responsibility to work diligently for the growth and development of the constituency.

He also recognised the efforts of his campaign team, supporters, friends and family, as well as everyone who contributed to his campaign.

Beyond celebrating his victory, Dr. Agyemang-Lardey has called for unity, reconciliation and a renewed sense of purpose among party members, stressing that the election should not become a source of lasting division within the constituency. He urged supporters of both candidates to put the contest behind them and rally around the collective interest of the NDC.

According to him, the election was an internal democratic exercise, and now that delegates have made their choice, the priority must be to strengthen the party rather than deepen existing differences. He also acknowledged his contender, Prosper Teye Akortia, emphasising the need for mutual respect, cooperation and a common commitment to the party’s objectives.

Dr. Agyemang-Lardey’s message places reconciliation at the centre of his post-election agenda, with an appeal for every member to feel recognised, respected and included, regardless of the candidate they supported.

The newly elected secretary is expected to work with the constituency executives, branch officers and other party stakeholders to improve the administration of the party and strengthen communication between the constituency leadership and the grassroots.

During his campaign, Dr. Agyemang-Lardey outlined a number of proposals aimed at improving the welfare of party members and creating opportunities for their personal and professional development. These included strengthening the constituency secretariat, improving welfare support for branch executives, establishing a proposed GH¢50,000 revolving seed fund, creating an opportunities hub and introducing mentorship programmes for party members.

The proposals formed part of his broader vision to build a more organised, responsive and inclusive constituency structure. His election now presents an opportunity to work with fellow executives and party stakeholders to assess these commitments and translate them into practical programmes. The proposed initiatives will also require clear implementation plans, accountability and cooperation among party officers to ensure that they deliver meaningful benefits to members.

As Dr. Agyemang-Lardey prepares to assume his responsibilities, attention is expected to shift from the campaign to the task of building a stronger constituency organisation. The immediate challenge will be to bridge any divisions arising from the contest, strengthen relationships among party members and ensure that the party’s structures remain active and effective at the grassroots. His call for unity also serves as a reminder that electoral victory comes with obligations to the wider membership, including those who supported the opposing candidate.

For the NDC in Sege, the task ahead is not only to consolidate the gains of the internal election but also to foster an environment in which members can work together towards shared political and organisational goals.

Dr. Agyemang-Lardey’s victory therefore marks both the end of a competitive election and the beginning of a new responsibility to serve the delegates and the wider party membership. The ballots have been counted, the mandate has been given, and the task now is to turn that mandate into service, unity and progress.
